History | Province of Southern Leyte
Southern Leyte shares a common past with Leyte, its mother province. Since the discovery of the Philippines on March 16, 1521, by Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese navigator in the service of the Spanish crown, up to June 30, 1960, the history of the province has been closely woven into the historical fabric of the mother province.
Topography - Province of Southern Leyte
Southern Leyte is characterized by relatively flat lands along the coastal areas and rugged mountainous interior regions. It lies on the southern extension of a mountain range and system that are the major geomorphic features.

Governor - Province of Southern Leyte
In 2008, one year into his term as Governor, Southern Leyte was declared by the Department of Health as the First Filariasis-free Province in the Country. The province also received the Manuel L. Quezon Award of Excellence in 2010 for its high TB Cure Rate and TB Case Detection Rate.
Provincial Symbols - Province of Southern Leyte
Despite its simplicity, the Southern Leyte provincial flag is rich in symbolism. The green background identifies Southern Leyte as an agricultural province where the majority of its people derive their livelihood from the products of the soil.
The Provincial Capitol | Province of Southern Leyte
The Province of Southern Leyte was allocated PhP 2,000,000.00 pesos by then President Diosdado P. Macapagal after he won the 1961 elections against the incumbent Carlos P. Garcia. Part of this amount (PhP 200,000.00) was allocated for the construction of the Provincial Capitol.
