The Senate has passed a Republican-led six-month spending bill hours before a government shutdown, overcoming sharp Democratic opposition to the measure.

Senate Republicans and some Democrats voted to advance a stopgap funding bill which clears the path for a final vote to avert a government shutdown. The 62-38 vote included 10 Democrats joining all but one Republican in voting in favor.
