It’s been almost a week since a fire at the BioLab facility in Rockdale County sent a plume of chemicals into the air, and residents said they’re still experiencing the effects. Just Friday, county officials extended a shelter-in-place order through the weekend.

Rockdale County is extending its nightly shelter-in-place order for residents across the county. The Rockdale County Emergency Management Agency is telling all residents to stay in their homes from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through the weekend. They say the shelter-in-place order will end at 7 a.m. on Monday.

The overnight shelter in place order in Rockdale County has ended. It comes as chemical plumes continue to linger over the Biolab facility in Conyers.

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — Thousands of residents of Rockdale County are demanding answers days after a fire at the BioLab plant in Conyers. Channel 2′s Michael Seiden was near the plant Tuesday night and he said just being outside smelled like he was standing in a giant indoor pool with the potent smell of chlorine in the air.

A reaction triggered by sprinkler system water pouring onto pool shock chlorination product at the BioLab facility in Conyers has continued to produce the plume.

The fire at the BioLab chemical plant and the subsequent emissions have created a challenging environment for Iyiana and her family. Her father, Eric Clemons, told Channel 2′s Tom Regan that its impact had on them. “We are very affected because (there was) a whole cloud was right there,” Eric Clemons said.
