An Akron school board member is calling for a review of policies after last week's forceful arrest of a high school student at Firestone.

Akron Public Schools will release details of a use of force incident between an Akron police officer and a high school student in a press conference Monday.

Akron Mayor Shammas Malik held a press conference Monday "to provide details on an incident which occurred last week at Firestone High School between a student and a school resource officer." According to Malik,

A student reportedly resisted going back through metal detectors at Firestone last week and was arrested and struck by the school's resource officer.

An Akron Police school resource officer punched a high school student in the head three times after police said the teen tried to avoid school metal detectors.

Mayor Shammas Malik held a press conference Monday to discuss an incident that took place last week at Firestone High School.

The mayor on Monday said he found the video "upsetting." The officer is on administrative duty pending the outcome of a use-of-force investigation.

According to a press release from Akron Public Schools, the student resource officer and student had an exchange during a metal detector screening on October 16.
