BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the Indian equity benchmark indices, opened in green on Monday. While BSE Sensex was up over 100 points, Nifty50 was above 24,000.

The S&P BSE Sensex was up 254.19 points to 79,477.30, while NSE Nifty50 gained 61.50 points to 24,066.25 as of 9:23 AM.

At the close of trading, the Sensex was down by 720.60 points, or 0.90 per cent, at 79,223.11, and the Nifty dropped 183.90 points, or 0.76 per cent, to end at 24,004.75

Indian stock market benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty 50, faced significant losses on January 3 due to profit booking and a strengthening US dollar. The Sensex dropped over 700 points, while the Nifty 50 fell 200 points amid selling pressure across several sectors.

The BSE Sensex fell 614 points, or 0.77 per cent to close at 79,330.14. Nifty declined 168.80 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 24,019.85. This is even as 2,136 BSE-listed stocks gained against 1,499 that slid so far.

Indian equity indices Sensex and Nifty 50 opened slightly lower on Friday, with notable declines in ITC, TCS, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Zomato, and Tech Mahindra. Conversely, NTPC, SBI, Adani Ports, Nestle India,
