INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana men’s basketball entered Thursday afternoon’s Big Ten tournament game against Oregon firmly on the NCAA tournament bubble. The No. 9-seed Hoosiers (19-13) left Gainbridge Fieldhouse with a missed opportunity to help their cause, falling 72-59 to the Ducks (24-8) in Indianapolis.

The No. 9 Hoosiers (19-12) lost 72-59 to an Oregon team that beat them on their West Coast trip nine days earlier. Those losses were huge setbacks for an IU team firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble, while the No. 8 Ducks (23-8) head into the quarterfinals to face No. 1 Michigan State, having won eight straight games.

Indiana will watch how Xavier, Villanova, North Carolina, SMU, VCU, Liberty, San Diego State and Dayton fare in the coming days.

Indiana came into the day ranked No. 52 in the NET Rankings with a 4-12 record against Quad 1 opponents (three of those wins came on the road) and no losses against Quad 2-4 teams. They finished .500 in conference play after closing out the regular season with five wins in their last seven games.
