Former Sheffield United defender George Baldock drowned while swimming in the pool at his home in Athens, his family said in a statement. The England-born Greece international’s death was confirmed on Wednesday night at the age of 31.

Greek police earlier confirmed there was no evidence that criminal activity caused the death of the 31-year-old.

The body of British-born Panathinaikos and Greece defender George Baldock was found on Wednesday in a swimming pool at his home in the southern Athens suburb of Glyfada, police sources said.
