Customers in the Charlotte, Triad and Durham areas will see a decrease because of lower fuel costs, Duke Energy said.

More than 42,000 Duke Energy Carolinas customers were without power Sunday afternoon as a storm rolled across the region. As of 12:30 p.m., the utility’s outage map reported 42,683 users in North and South Carolina had no power from 777 outages.

Duke Energy Carolinas customers will see their electric rates fall starting Jan. 1 as part of an annual adjustment for the cost of fuel used to generate electricity.
