Missouri linebackers coach DJ Smith is departing to become Appalachian State's defensive coordinator. That Smith is taking a coordinator position at his alma mater is not especially surprising, though the timing — with the news of his departure coming out the night before the Tigers play in the Music City Bowl on Monday — and task of replacing a highly regarded assistant will be challenges.
