Select Broadway theaters will dim their lights for the late Gavin Creel at a date and time being coordinated with his family, the Broadway League said today. Creel’s death from a rare and aggressive cancer at age 48 on September 30 has prompted a massive and continuing outpouring on social media of love and heartbreak from the Broadway community.

A petition has been launched calling for the lights of every Broadway theater to be dimmed in honor of Tony and Olivier award winning performer Gavin creel, who passed away this week. Learn more about the petition.

The Broadway League has announced that the marquee lights from several theaters on the Great White Way will be dimmed to honor the late Tony Award-winning actor Gavin Creel. The memorial is to take place at a date and time to be coordinated with Creel's family at their request,

Creel passed away at his home in New York on Monday. His death was confirmed by his partner, Alex Temple Ward. The cause of death was a rare and aggressive form of cancer - metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma - which Creel was diagnosed with in July.
